setting up for Happy Together

We have been busy setting up the exhibition at Notthatbalai.

It took a little longer than we expected but we push forward :)

Busy also with the renovation -- and all the licensing still quite stressful situation. -- trying to get online and submitting applications and co-ordinating.

Actually, I suspect this is just the few times which we have to do some much home stuff away from home. Literally, a mobile office set up.

Anyway, hope to get more pics to upload next time and you can see how things are here!

Oh yes, Sze-Chin, Bruce and Lisa Kelly is also in KL. That's quite fun to see each other here.

Arrived at KL -- setting up the show.

Jen and myself arrive in KL, we were delayed a little due to somethings cropping up with the renovations.

But we managed and got on the bus... although, I had to get Sze-Chin to the bus station to pick up mini-dv tape for his work.

Silly, me forgot to pass that on to him.

Anyway, more updates, I hope... I am on some very 'weak' connection in this hotel.

10 years after his residency in The Substation, Tang Mun Kit re-visits the residency process, the works made during the residency, and the exhibition that was presented after the residency ended (which was entitled Hibernated Works: Objects, Sculptures, Assets aka Materials vs Materialism). Among other issues, this exhibition is an attempt to highlight the ‘green’ nature of found objects, ie. a conservationist approach to artmaking through recycling, reusing and reducing. The exhibition runs till 5 August.

This new documentary by Tan Pin Pin chronicles the ways people attempt to leave a mark before they and their histories disappear. From an intrepid Japanese journalist hunting down Singaporean war veterans to an avid amateur film director trying to preserve his decaying trove of Singapore footage, Tan draws out hopes and regrets of these protagonists as they attempt immortality. Through footage and photos rarely seen until now, we begin to perceive faint silhouettes of a City that could have been. For more info, see http://invisiblecity.sg/.

Singapore-based French photographer Gilles Massot provides his personal view on the impact of the development of photography. Exploring the theme, Massot will combine history, artistic intuition and phenomenology, and will try to cast new light on the way this medium has changes the human perception of the world, including a consideration of today’s so-called civilisation of images. Part of Month of Photography 2007.

HAppy Together - in KL

Dear friend,

p-10 has been invited to be a guest curator of notthatbalai 2007, an independent arts festival in Kuala Lumpur, held from this Fri (20 July) to 5 August.

We are curating a new visual art exhibition entitled Happy Together and

this will be shown in 2 different locations in KL: Lost Generation Space and 67 Tempinis Gallery. The official opening of notthatbalai 2007 will be held on Sat (21 July) at Lost Generation Space.

Happy Together is an exhibition of artworks by Singaporean and Singapore-based artists which seeks to explore the relationships between artists, their artworks and the audience. The artists featured are Li Cassidy-Peet; Cheo Chai Hiang; Amanda Heng, Twardzik Ching Chor Leng and Vincent Twardzik Ching; Jeremy Hiah; Ho Tzu Nyen; Kamal Dollah; Kai Lam; Lee Sze-Chin; Lim Kok Boon; Gilles Massot; Tang Ling Nah; Woon Tien Wei and Joshua Yang.

In addition, at the same time in KL, TK Sabapathy is curating the commemorative exhibition for Redza Piyadasa, entitled Piyadasa: The Malaysian Series. This will be held at Galeri Petronas, also from 20 July to 5 August. The opening reception will be held on Thu (19 July).
