Now till 2 Nov in Show Room: Exelcior Mortis: Recent Work by Jack Youngblood (UK) features work done in the past year while he was artist-in-residence in a Singaporean computer games design company. The work also addresses such notions as ‘the hero’, ‘the beauty’, death and loss and is a development of the ‘old spaceman’ imagery that has constituted his other shows in Singapore. A parallel event of SB2008. Opened 6-10pm (Tue-Fri), 12-10pm (Sat+Sun), closed on Mon; free admission.

2. Food #03 is featured on Small Girl Big Appetite Episode 8 - http://sgba.tv - check it out!

Drawing Out Conversations (curated by p-10’s Lim Kok Boon and featuring Post-Museum’s resident artists Chun Kai Feng, Chun Kai Qun and Joo Choon Lin among others) is now on at FOST (65 Kim Yam Rd). Later on today, osage bringing some people from philippines.

Just toying with the idea to put some portfolios at Food #03 since so many curators come, it will be nice to let them have a look at some singapore artist works.

I am at the library (TPY) with Jen.

REading and researching on one of the new projects. (A design and art one).

Any suggestions? then played around with the webcam and uploading the recordings onto facebook.

Now that is fun. Now we can use it to make small videos. And also quick recording!

At TPY, it is quite noisy and people are making lots of sounds and talking.

and students doing their homework. (i thought that the library is against that?)

Good news, FOI is going to happen again soon. So for those fans of the performance festival! And of course, the Fetterfield festival.

It is happening soon. ( NOV ) I suppose.

Making things clearer

Realised that people don't often take the time to find out about things or to read carefully. No matter whether it is out of haste, negligence, laziness or a lack of interest, we still need to try to make things clearer whenever possible.

Here are some clarifications regarding p-10 and Post-Museum:

1. p-10 is not Post-Museum.
2. Post-Museum is not run by p-10 though p-10 was an initiator of the project.
3. p-10 does not run any project space now but still functions as a curatorial team. p-10 is currently the resident curatorial team in Post-Museum.
4. Post-Museum is not an artists-run space but an independent cultural centre focusing on contemporary culture (arts, design, architecture, etc) and its relationship to society.
5. Post-Museum is not funded by NAC and is a social enterprise.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any questions.

p-10 Picks (16-22 June 2008)

Dear friend,
Here are 3 events happening elsewhere in Singapore this week we recommend:

1. Opening: Thu (19 June), 7pm
HanoiHaiku
By Sherman Ong
2902 (11 Mt Sophia Old School)
Free

HanoiHaiku is presented like a visual Haiku. Intentionally left untitled, the juxtaposition of images produces their own narratives, temporal connections, and is open to many interpretations infused with the personal experiences of individual viewers. Part of Month of Photography. Till 5 July.

2. Opening: Sun (22 June), 2pm
A Bowl of Rice
By Zai Kuning
Sculpture Sq (Middle Rd)
Free

Zai is creating two geometric drawings across the gallery space, using an estimated 5000kg of rice. The public is invited to attend the exhibition with a humble contribution of a bowl of rice - or two - which will eventually be donated to voluntary welfare organisations. Till 13 July.

3. Now – 13 July
The End Depends On The Beginning. The Beginning Depends On The End.
By Heman Chong
Third Floor-Hermès (541 Orchard Rd Liat Towers)
10.30am- 7.30pm daily
Free

Inspired by the last paragraphs found in a selection of novels read in the past year, Chong investigates the philosophies, reasons and methods of individuals and communities imagining the future. Here, he is fascinated with the idea of the end of things, utilizing both the form and content of these ‘book ends’ to compose the series of objects on display.

Check these out and have a nice week ahead!

Yes, let's get together!

Lots of things happening these days.

One thing, we finally put up the glass replacement and that cost us a whopping $350.

Crazy and all that is really unforseen costs.

We really need to start some fund raising - to get the Post-Museum fund started. At this moment, many things are still from our own pockets.

Yes, sometimes, the crazy things we do.

Post-Museum is looking for people to join the PM team - and grow with us, grow the arts and culture! It is not a job - more of a part-time position, no we don't have funds to pay for any work done yet.

So we are looking for people who believe in what PM stands for - and interested in whatever small way, which you can contribute, part-time, full-time, -- remember, META computing, this is META - Building for Post-Museum.

Give us a call, email or a shout-out!

Thursday 24 April 2008

Art show aimed at shattering social barriers has barrier shattered

On 22nd April 2008, the Post-Museum staff arrives at work shocked to find that the gallery window shattered. The police was alerted immediately and after the investigation, the case was categorised as mischief as no artworks were stolen from the exhibition.

This incident has left the artists, friends and the staff at Post-Museum wondering if this was just a freak incident or a member of public who finds the exhibition too offensive for their liking.

Artist, Eileen A. Reynolds commented that "When I first heard about this incident, I asked myself if it could be someone who feels strongly against Joan's work?" The exhibition, Influx, features the work of Eileen A. Reynolds and Joan Kelly is based on portraits of foreign workers, prostitutes and maids.

Could the broken window be the handiwork of someone who finds the work insulting, degrading or a little obscene for their liking? At this point, there are no suspects but fortunately the neighborhood residents have been alerted and some volunteered to keep a watch out for any suspicious characters hanging around Post-Museum when the staff goes home.

Sadly, replacing the broken glass window will now eat into Post-Musuem's limited resources. Woon Tien Wei, curatorial team at the Post-Museum commented that, "Art can make people do strange things, I understand that completely. If you are unhappy with the artwork, talk to the artist, blog about it, discuss with friends. Replacing the window will cost us quite a bit of money. Especially at this time when prices of everything is going up. I 'd rather spend it on developing more meaningful cultural programmes for the public."

Despite all the commotion surrounding this incident, the show will go on, Influx will run until 28 April.

synopsis on exhibition:

Eileen Anastasia Reynolds and Joan Kelly present a body of work that critiques, celebrates and reflects upon the multifarious nature of Singapore's working communities. They approach their subject from two singular perspectives, but with a shared consciousness of their own expatriate status in Singapore, as educators at the Nanyang Technological University.

The painterly exuberance of Joan's painted portraits evinces her emotional involvement with the subject matter. The prostitutes, construction site workers and taxi drivers all seem to reflect back the charm with which they are perceived. This is in contrast to the objective distance on display in Eileen's photographs and videos of the same subject matter. However, it is distance made intimate by the whimsical digital manipulations and editing strategies that she employs.

These two artists are connected by little more than their subject matter yet together their work produces an engaging synthesis: mutable and complex, contradictory and in flux.
