copycopycopy

hihi,
we are still in Perth. it's now almost 3am and really cold. we had some
nice warm sunshine earlier today though.
looked through the art mags & journals in the Curtin library just now. wow,
so much to read. i went on a copy spree; luckily, 10 cents a piece is still
affordable.
there's an article in ST (17 Nov) about the new copyright laws in Singapore
- be careful now! you can read it (quick, not sure how long it'll be
there): 'Copyright pirates may be put behind bars'
http://www.straitstimes.com/sub/singapore/story/0,5562,285456,00.html?
here's a hot recent topic related to copyrights - something those of us who
are serious about art should start thinking about - the Creative Commons site:
http://www.creativecommons.org.
also, check out Kingdom of Piracy, the umbrella project that BURN by Shu
Lea Cheang (currently in MAAP at SAM) is under: http://kop.fact.co.uk/burn.
'Tough action under new law to protect rights of creative community', reads
the subheading of the ST article. is that it, really?

An old entry that did not make it to the blog...

I am glad it is finally over!

Hello, been a hectic week -- preparing for Errata and following up with What do you want to eat? The discussion for What do you want to Eat? Was good -- think we covered some areas which are vague the first time round. Although, there are moments where it was 'elusive' as usual.

So far there are about 126 visitor to the Errata show. What do you want to eat? Dessert - had 20 people present during the performance.

4:19 PM 9/22/2004 - Susie Wong just left after viewing the exhibition. She will be the first Little India Residency artist. Her project will be interesting. I like the idea to create situations for the artist to be visible in the vicinity.

5:59 PM 9/22/2004 - Joon Kiat and Isabel // visited Errata today. We talked and catch up about what was happening with each other. We also talked about the exhibition (ERRATA) - and also the "by appointment" system. Basically, people are not comfortable to in general to make appointments with people they do not know ... in order to come see the exhibition. In fact, by word of mouth -- it is more effective at this moment.

One the main reason for this "by appointment" system - has many reasons. We wanted to the audience to come prepared - to see the show and not just fall into a "chance-walk-by" situation. On another note, the idea is to not just open the space in regular hours like the bank, museums etc. p-10 started with the intention to create a space unique to the current cultural settings, "by appointment" suggests a different mode of viewing and approaching the art and exhibition.

Was surfing through Kai's website.

(from old blog) Tuesday, November 09, 2004
Was surfing through Kai's website.
http://www.geocities.com/op_out74/ - maybe you wanna see it and think for yourself.
Never got time to read it after it has got updated. But was thinking about his work and thought it is good time to read it more and try to understand his work more.
This has got to be so many times which I mentioned htis, but I feel that artists do not really understand each other's practice. We just let things happen - it has been a long time since we have let things happen. Trying in recent years to make sense of what is happening and find it generally difficult since most artists tend to "evacuate" when we want to talk about their works. It happens on small talks but when it becomes more open talks - we tend to struggle to get answers...
